Founder & Executive Director, Created Gainesville
Alison Ungaro is the Founder & Executive Director for Created Gainesville, a local organization committed to reaching and restoring women caught in sex trafficking and sexual exploitation. She has been a resident of Gainesville for almost 20 years. She came to Gainesville to study at the University of Florida, where she earned a graduate degree in Speech Language Pathology in 2003. She met her husband while they were students at UF and they now have five beautiful children. Alison was a full-time stay-at-home mom when she began learning about the harsh realities for women caught in the sex industry. Paired with her heart being broken for the exploitation of women around the world, including our city of Gainesville, her heart was also filled with an overwhelming hope that these women, could be set free, healed, and live a life full of hope and beauty. Six years ago, Alison came on staff with Created to establish a branch in Gainesville. Her mission has been to create opportunities for women to know their value, to have a place of belonging and support, and to build resources needed for women to leave the dangerous and destructive lifestyles associated with the sex industry.
Session Title: Life Redefined
Track: Community Growth
Description: Storytelling within the context of healing and restoration from trauma, addiction, shame, and exploitation is a powerful tool to finding one’s voice, strength, resilience, and power to inspire. Join Alison Ungaro as she shares how her life has been redefined as she continues to daily discover the realities of Sex Trafficking in our community and cultivates opportunities for women escaping to find a fresh start in life and safe places for sharing life with one another. Through working with exploited women over the past 6 years she has seen how the power of sharing a story not only heals the individual sharing their story, but it heals the whole community who takes part in listening to the heart and life of another.
