STORY:GNV 2017 // RESILIENCE

OCTOBER 21, 2017

Developing Personal and Professional Resilience Through Story

RESILIENCE

Resilience is the human ability to bounce back from the difficult moments that life throws at us and rise up, stronger than ever. Storytelling develops resilience. This is true at the personal level, the organizational level and the community level. The stories we tell and how we tell them effect our ability to be resilient. This year, the theme for STORY:GNV is “Resilience” and our speakers will present ways in which we can develop resilience through story.

WHAT IS STORY:GNV?

STORY:GNV is Gainesville’s first conference to use storytelling to showcase how we can connect with others more thoughtfully, do business more efficiently and change our communities more wholeheartedly.  STORY:GNV is bringing together a diverse group of individuals from three of Gainesville’s largest industries – Healthcare, Education, and Business – to share the ways that storytelling impacts their work. Gather ’round the proverbial campfire, Gainesville.

Chalk Talk Takeaways

The Impact of Story on Community

During STORY:GNV 2016 we attempted to crowd-source answers to complex questions from the conference attendees. We did this through Chalk Talks. Chalk Talks are a silent way to do reflection, generate ideas, develop projects or solve problems. We had four tables covered with paper and a question written on each one. Attendees were encouraged to take one of the provided markers and answer the questions as they felt moved. Click here to read how the STORY:GNV attendees responded to the Chalk Talk questions!
